Why WordPress Migrations Go Wrong
Most WordPress migration problems aren’t caused by the move itself — they’re caused by skipping steps. Missing database tables, broken file paths, misconfigured DNS, SSL errors, plugin conflicts on the new host — any one of these can take a site down and keep it there for days.
CriticalWP has handled migrations ranging from simple host swaps to complex WooCommerce stores and multisite networks. Every migration follows the same careful process: full backup before anything moves, staged testing on the new environment before DNS cutover, and a post-launch checklist that covers everything from redirects to email delivery.
Migration Types We Handle
No two migrations are the same. Here’s what we work on most:
01
Host-to-Host Migrations
Moving from one hosting provider to another — shared, managed, VPS, or cloud. We handle DNS cutover, SSL setup, and post-migration testing on any host.
02
Developer Handoff Migrations
Taking over a site from another developer or agency. We audit the existing build, document what’s there, clean up what needs it, and migrate cleanly to your environment.
03
DIY Site Rescues
Attempted a migration yourself and something broke? White screen, missing content, broken URLs, SSL errors — we diagnose and fix botched migrations fast.
04
WooCommerce Store Migrations
Orders, customers, product data, payment gateways, and inventory all need to survive the move intact. We handle WooCommerce migrations with extra care for data integrity.
05
Multisite Migrations
WordPress Multisite networks require careful handling of shared databases, user roles, and domain mapping. We’ve moved both subdomain and subdirectory multisite setups without issue.

What’s Included in a CriticalWP Migration
Flat fee, full service. Here’s what every migration engagement covers.
🗂 Full Pre-Migration Backup
Complete backup of files and database before anything moves. Stored securely off-site so there’s always a restore point.
🧪 Staging Environment Testing
We stand up the site on the new host and test everything before DNS cutover — no surprises when you go live.
🔒 SSL Configuration
SSL installed and verified on the new host. Mixed content issues identified and resolved so there are no browser security warnings post-launch.
🌐 DNS Cutover
We manage the DNS transition to minimize downtime — typically under 15 minutes for most migrations.
✉️ Email Delivery Verification
WordPress transactional email confirmed working post-migration — contact forms, WooCommerce order emails, password resets.
📋 Post-Launch Checklist
Search Console updated, redirects verified, caching configured, and a final performance check before we hand the keys back.

Common Migration Questions
How much does a WordPress migration cost?
CriticalWP charges a flat project fee for migrations — pricing depends on the complexity of the site, whether it’s WooCommerce or Multisite, and the current state of the build.
Contact us for a specific quote. Most standard host-to-host migrations start at
$300–$500. Complex WooCommerce or Multisite jobs are quoted individually.
Will my site go down during the migration?
We stage everything on the new host and test thoroughly before touching DNS. The actual cutover window is typically under 15 minutes. For business-critical sites we schedule migrations during off-peak hours.
Which hosting providers do you migrate to?
Any host. We work with managed WordPress hosts like WP Engine, Kinsta, Cloudways, and Flywheel, as well as shared hosts, VPS environments, and custom server setups. If you’re not sure which host to move to, we’re happy to make a recommendation based on your site’s needs.
Can you migrate a broken or partially migrated site?
Yes. If you attempted a migration yourself and something went wrong — white screen, missing content, broken URLs, SSL errors — we can diagnose the problem and either fix it in place or redo the migration cleanly.
Get in touch with details on what happened and we’ll advise on the fastest path forward.
Do you migrate WooCommerce stores?
Yes — WooCommerce migrations are a core part of what we do. Orders, customers, product data, payment gateway configuration, and inventory all need to survive the move intact. We test the full checkout flow on staging before going live.
How long does a migration take?
Most standard migrations are completed within 1–2 business days from kickoff. WooCommerce and Multisite migrations typically take 2–4 business days depending on data volume and complexity. We’ll give you a specific timeline with your quote.
